Alexandre Lory
Alexandre Lory is a concert pianist with many talents and an artist of profoundly authentic sensitivity. After completing his musical studies at the Conservatory of Aix-en-Provence, he was admitted in 2011, unanimously, to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Roger Muraro and Isabelle Dubuis. He earned his Bachelor’s degree two years later, followed by his Master’s in 2015. That same year, he was unanimously admitted to the Master’s program in chamber music, studying piano duo with Clément Lefebvre under the guidance of Claire Désert and Amy Flammer. In August 2016, they were invited to perform a series of concerts as part of the resident ensembles at the Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, and later performed at the Préludes aux concerts in the grand hall of the Philharmonie de Paris.
Supported by the association “Amis des Jeunes Artistes Musiciens,” they toured Alsace in April 2017 before joining the Festival Messiaen de La Meije in July. Alexandre was admitted in September 2016 to the Diplôme d’Artiste Interprète program at the CNSM of Paris, where he was awarded the Prix Blüthner.
Quickly noticed by Bernard d’Ascoli, who has been mentoring him since 2009, Alexandre is supported by the Piano Cantabile association. He has also worked with pianists such as Jacques Rouvier, Konstantin Lifschitz, Alain Planès, Michel Dalberto, Jeffrey Swann, Jerome Rose, Louis Lortie, and Matei Varga.
A laureate of the Safran Foundation, the Banque Populaire Foundation, and the Mécénat Musical Société Générale, Alexandre is also a highly regarded chamber musician. He is invited by numerous festivals, including the Festival des Nuits Pianistiques in Aix-en-Provence, the Festival des Pianissimes, the “Sonates d’Automne” Festival in Loches, the Thalasso Radio Classique Festival in Saint-Malo, the Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, the Folle Journée de Nantes, the “All About Piano” Festival in London, the Ysaÿe’s Knokke Festival in Belgium, the International Festival of Kyoto, the IKIF of New York, and during the 2014 music season at the French Cultural Center of Boston.
He regularly performs in duo with violinist Léo Marillier and pianist Clément Lefebvre, and has also performed with clarinetist Florent Héau. He even stepped in at the last minute for a concert at the Cité de la Musique in Paris with cellist Ivan Karizna. Alexandre also performs as a soloist with various orchestras, including the Lecce Wind Orchestra, the Aix-en-Provence Symphony Orchestra, the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova, and the Orchestra of Conservatory Laureates, performing Rachmaninoff’s 1st Piano Concerto under the direction of Philippe Aïche.
An active participant in the cultural life of his hometown through solo concerts, Alexandre is also involved in the “Opéra dans la Rue” project with French and Dutch lyrical artists around major pieces from the classical repertoire. The Académie Pianistique d’Aix has entrusted him with accompanying Master Classes for several years, including those by Philippe Bary and François Baduel (cello) and Jérôme Guichard (oboe).
At the Conservatoire Supérieur National de Paris, he formed a musical partnership with violinist Léo Marillier, which is fully expressed in their first CD “Fantaisies d’opéra.” Produced in 2014 by the independent label Forgotten Records, which specializes in rare works, the CD was created under the artistic direction of Alexis Galpérine. In July 2015, they were selected for the prestigious International Violin-Piano Duo Academy in Lausanne, supervised by Pierre Amoyal and Anne Queffélec.
Alexandre won 1st Prize at the 2017 Liszt International Piano Competition in Brest and 1st Prize at the Società Umanitaria International Competition in Milan. In 2018, he was also one of the winners of the IKIF Artist Recognition Scholarship Award in New York. Holder of the Certificat d’Aptitude, he currently teaches at the CRR and the Pôle Supérieur of Boulogne-Billancourt, as well as at the CMA20 Georges Bizet in Paris.
